Quake 1 Painkeep server
« on: March 26, 2004, 03:52:05 pm »
Talk about old school, baby!  Open your preferred Quakeworld client, and type at the prompt:

connect heavybrick.homeip.net:26000

If I'm on, I'll kill you.  Just like old times, Killjoy!
I still have to work out a server rotation, so for now, it starts on the hub level.  PM me if you need any files...

What's the difference between Quake and Quakeworld?

I can't seem to connect to your sevrer there, or any Quake servers, but I can connect to the Quakeworld servers okay.  Maybe I'm missing something?

Quake is the original game.  Quakeworld is a recompiled version with better optimized net code.  The server I run is a Quakeworld server.  Vanilla Quake servers suck over the internet.  So you'll use either qwcl or glqwcl.

So...  I wonder why I couldn't get into your server then?

Oops.  It was down.  Its back up now.  Sorry.

Unfortunately, I can't play right now.  We're taking Cam to get a haircut.  I'll be on later, tho.  You might want to login and roam around.  Familiarize yourself wtih the new weapons Painkeep has (beartrap, autosentry, gravity well) - all of which can be used by repeatedly pressing the number 1 on your keyboard.  Another handy command is +mlook, which allows you to use your mouse to look up and down and around like most more modern games.  Just hit the ` key (the key just to the left of the 1 key) to open the console.  Type +mlook and hit enter, then hit the ` again to go back to your game.

I was playing around earlier, and I can tell you, I'm not going to be able to be competitive.  I really suck.  I mean...  I can't hardly walk around.  I played for like 20 minutes and got 2 kills (I think you lose 1 kill if you die 5x or something - because at some points I had -1 kills).

But, I'm always suspicious of the one guy in the room that has 62 kills and everyone else has around 8 or 9.

Did you download the file I had posted in the admin section?  You need the Painkeep maps.

I've got Quake1 fine.  I'm trying to find the painkeep maps right now, but I'm coming across a lot of dead links.  I'll keep looking, bound to google something up in a minute or two.

Does anybody have painkeep running on Linux, can tell me how all these folder paths are supposed to be laid out?
