PREY (PC).

The graphics are sweet, if you like that "kinda dark, high-tech mixed with biological machines" look.
It uses the Doom3 engine, but I like this better than that game. It isn't SO dark you have to keep whipping out your lighter constantly,
and shit doesn't jump on you ever 4 seconds. You have time to explore and play around with your surroundings rather than run like hell the
whole time.

this game's gimmicks....

PORTALS>
I've always wanted to see "portals" used in a singleplayer FPS game. I've seen this before in the original Unreal game, I think it was in a MP user map. I never saw it again until now.

A portal opens up and you can see into the other side, and walk back and forth between areas seemlessly. there were sections where you have multiple portals in the same room and you can actually see yourself going into the portal... or shoot yourself in the back of the head...
mindboggling.

GRAVITY>
you are on a ship, so gravity is easily manipulated. There are sections where you shoot a switch and your floor becomes a wall
and you hit the new floor. There are also walkways that defy gravity, you walk on it as if you were on a rollercoater, shooting enemies on
"their floor" above you. whats even more twisted is portals that pop you out in the same exact room, but you're on the ceiling now...

SPIRIT WALKING>
you can go to a higher plane of existence, out of your body to do things that you can't normally do, such as walking through forcefields. This feature comes in handy to solve many puzzles, like standing on an elevator and sending your ghost out to hit the switch to send you up. You can also see things in the spirit world you can't see in your mortal form. This also leads to your seemingly immortal existence.
You don't die in this game, you go to a higher plane and shoot wraiths to get health and spirit energy back, then you go back right
where you were.

The main thing I don't like is some of the more disturbing visuals. humans (some chidren) being killed by aliens and their mechanized
killing machines... and of course, you are completely helpless to save them. There are only a handful of weapons, and they aren't that spectacular,
they could have spent more time on that.

B+
very linear, not much getting lost.
solid FPS, get it when its $30...
its no HL2, but a good diversion.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
